Itinerary

01Day

Athens - Munich - Salzburg

Meeting at the airport and flight with SKY EXPRESS to Munich. Arrival in the capital of Bavaria and departure for Salzburg, the fairy-tale city that served as the setting for the legendary film “The Sound of Music” and was the birthplace of Mozart. The “Salt Castle”, as its name literally translates, enjoyed great economic growth in Roman times thanks to “white gold”, that is, rock salt. Check-in at the EUROPA SALZBURG 4* sup. hotel (www.austriatraned.at). Overnight stay.

02Day

Salzburg, Guided Tour

Today's guided tour begins at Mirabell Palace with its wonderful gardens. After crossing the river Salzach, we will reach Getreidegasse, the main shopping street of the superbly preserved old town (Altstadt). We will stroll through the narrow lanes to admire the beautiful buildings and churches, as well as the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress, which towers over the city from its hill. Among elegant boutiques and shop windows filled with porcelain dolls stands the house where the greatest musical genius of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), was born; today it is a museum with interesting personal and family belongings. Free time to explore the city further. Overnight stay.

03Day

Salzburg - Lake Mondsee and the church where “The Sound of Music” was filmed - St. Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang, St. Wolfgang - Hallstatt - Salzburg

This morning we will set off for the spectacular region of the crystal-clear Salzkammergut lakes. The delightful traditional villages reflected in their calm waters and the towering Alpine peaks that surround them create unique scenes that seem to have “sprung” from the palette of an especially talented painter! Our first stop is Lake Mondsee and the town of the same name, home to the medieval Mondsee Abbey, whose church was used for the wedding scenes in the filming of “The Sound of Music”. We continue to the picturesque village of St. Gilgen and the popular resort of St. Wolfgang (St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut) on the shores of Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee), with the famous White Horse Inn. Finally, we will visit idyllic Hallstatt, the “pearl of Austria”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, built on a steep shore of the lake of the same name (Hallstättersee). It is one of the oldest inhabited settlements in Europe, and the salt in the hills above it has been a source of wealth for centuries. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.

04Day

Salzburg - Kitzbühel - Lake Zell am See - Salzburg

Morning departure for a wonderful drive to Austria's most famous ski resort, Kitzbühel. It is an amphitheatrically built Alpine village with colourful doll's houses in Tyrolean style, more picturesque than even the loveliest illustrated fairy tales! Among them you will find small, charming shops full of Christmas goods and much more. We continue to fairy-tale Zell am See, built by monks from Salzburg on the shores of the beautiful lake of the same name. Free time to enjoy the wonderful Alpine scenery and return to Salzburg. Overnight stay.

05Day

Salzburg - Wattens/Swarovski Museum - Innsbruck - Salzburg

This morning we will depart for Wattens, where we will visit the Swarovski museum, extraordinary of its kind – a journey into the magical, wondrous, fairy-tale world of Swarovski crystals. We will wander through the glittering corridors and the “Chambers of Wonder”, in a space that combines creativity, innovation, art and entertainment! And of course, Crystal Worlds has a huge shop, where visitors can buy some of the unique creations of the house of Swarovski. Afterwards we will set off for charming Innsbruck, the “bridge over the river Inn” (brücke: bridge), capital of the Austrian federal state of Tyrol, where on our afternoon tour we will see the city's Baroque buildings, its squares, the main avenue Maria-Theresien-Strasse (Maria Theresa Street), the Golden Roof, St. James' Cathedral, the Hofburg Imperial Palace (exterior), the Triumphal Arch and more. Free time and return to Salzburg. Overnight stay.
