Itinerary

01Day

ATHENS - FRANKFURT - HEIDELBERG - STRASBOURG

Meeting at the airport and flight to Frankfurt. On arrival, departure for Heidelberg, where we will have the chance to stroll through the pedestrianised historic centre, with the interesting Jesuit Church and Church of the Holy Spirit. The Hauptstrasse, the backbone of Heidelberg, is the longest pedestrian street in Europe, perhaps even in the world, at 1.6 kilometres long. It passes through the main square (with the wonderful Town Hall building and the famous Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit), the Hotel Ritter of 1592 (one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture) and dozens of lovely little shops, from beer halls and cafés to patisseries, antique shops and stores selling original souvenirs. Free time, followed by transfer and check-in at our hotel in Strasbourg. Overnight stay.

02Day

STRASBOURG

Breakfast at the hotel and a panoramic tour of the seat of the European Parliament, which is built on the west bank of the Rhine and crossed by the River Ill. We will head to the historic centre of the city, dominated by the imposing Cathedral, 142 m high and one of the 6 tallest in the world, with the Astronomical Clock inside. We will wander through the area of picturesque lanes known as “Little France”, with its half-timbered houses, countless bridges and flower-filled balconies. Overnight stay.

03Day

STRASBOURG - COLMAR & VILLAGES OF ALSACE (RIBEAUVILLE, RIQUEWIHR, EGUISHEIM)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is dedicated to the beautiful villages of Alsace, such as Ribeauville, Riquewihr and Eguisheim, and of course Colmar, the jewel of Alsace, which lies on the Wine Route and is renowned for its wines. We will tour its historic centre, characterised by traditional houses built on the banks of the River Lauch. We will see the Town Hall, the Cathedral dedicated to St Martin, as well as small, beautiful squares with interesting open-air markets. Free time in the loveliest part of the old town, Little Venice, characterised by canals, ornate bridges, elegant cafés and restaurants. Don’t forget to have your photo taken in front of the Pfister House, built around 1537 and an example of German Renaissance architecture. Return late in the afternoon to our hotel in Strasbourg. Overnight stay.

04Day

STRASBOURG - FREIBURG - LAKE TITISEE

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we depart by road for Germany and the region of the famous Black Forest. Our first stop will be the greenest city in Europe, Freiburg, Nikos Kazantzakis’ favourite city. After a guided tour to get to know this beautiful German city, we set off for the edge of the Black Forest and Lake Titisee, crossing the “Black Forest” and the “Clock Route” (numerous cuckoo-clock workshops). Return to Strasbourg. Overnight stay.
